In dense IoT deployments, the biggest challenges are no longer about connecting devices, they’re about keeping systems reliable, secure, and maintainable over time. As these pressures increase, technologies like Z-Wave are evolving to address problems that weren’t part of the original design assumptions.

This keynote explores how Z-Wave is expanding beyond its traditional role as a wireless protocol to support more scalable and resilient system architectures. This includes advancements in security, such as S2V2, designed to strengthen device trust and lifecycle management, as well as emerging approaches that leverage Z-Wave at the application layer to enable interoperability across different network types.

At the same time, innovations in ultra-low-power and battery-free devices are beginning to change how Z-Wave networks are deployed and maintained, reducing operational overhead and enabling new classes of persistent sensing and automation.

Together, these developments reflect a broader shift in how Z-Wave fits into modern IoT systems not just as a connectivity standard, but as a foundational layer for secure, interoperable, and scalable device ecosystems.
