Wireless Standards Bodies Panel Announcement

For the first time, seven global wireless alliances to share one stage at The Things Conference 2026

The Things Conference 2026 announces an exclusive panel uniting DECT Forum, the Connectivity Standards Alliance, Thread Group, Bluetooth SIG, Wi-Fi Alliance, LoRa Alliance, and Z-Wave Alliance. The first time these seven organizations have appeared together on one stage to discuss the future of the connected world.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, September 2026: The Things Conference 2026, returning to Amsterdam on 22–23 September under the theme Put Your Demo Where Your Mouth Is, today announced a landmark panel discussion bringing together seven of the world's leading wireless standards bodies: DECT Forum, the Connectivity Standards Alliance (Matter, Zigbee), Thread Group, Bluetooth SIG, Wi-Fi Alliance, LoRa Alliance, and Z-Wave Alliance. Titled Wireless IoT Standards: State of the Union, it is the first time these seven alliances have shared a single stage, a rare moment of alignment across an industry more often defined by competition between protocols.

One Stage, Seven Alliances, One Goal

Low power and wireless connectivity has never been won by a single standard. It is built by communities of competitors and collaborators working, often in parallel, toward the same outcome: a world where every device can connect reliably, securely, and at scale. By bringing DECT Forum, CSA, Thread Group, Bluetooth SIG, Wi-Fi Alliance, LoRa Alliance, and Z-Wave Alliance to the same table, The Things Conference 2026 is creating a forum for a conversation the industry rarely has in public.

Moderated live in Amsterdam by Wienke Giezeman, CEO and Co-Founder of The Things Industries, the panel will tackle the hard questions head-on: how to push the wireless industry forward together, how to accelerate developer adoption across ecosystems, and what each alliance is doing individually and collectively to build a more connected world. This is not a stand-off between competing protocols. It is a candid, cooperative discussion on how the industry can best serve hardware makers, systems integrators, and product builders with the right wireless technology for the job.

Meet the Panel

The panel will be hosted by Wienke Giezeman, CEO and Co-founder of The Things Industries, and will feature:

  • Roel Ottink — Director Business Development, DECT Forum

  • Jon Harros — Head of Testing and Certification, Connectivity Standards Alliance

  • Damon Barnes — Director of Technical Marketing, Bluetooth SIG

  • Luis del Valle, Director of Business Development – EMEA — VP Marketing, Wi-Fi Alliance

  • Alper Yegin — CEO, LoRa Alliance

  • Avi Rosenthal — CEO, Z-Wave Alliance

  • Henk Veldhuis  —  Head of Business Development for Europe, Thread Group

A Rare, Unscripted Conversation

"You don't often get DECT Forum, CSA, Thread Group, Bluetooth SIG, Wi-Fi Alliance, LoRa Alliance and Z-Wave Alliance in the same room, never mind on the same stage.

The industry keeps asking which technology will win. This is the wrong question. If a different technology is better for your project, I'd rather you use that one. It's about trust, it's about transparency, it's about picking the right technology for the problem at hand.

I'm very much looking forward to hosting this panel at The Things Conference this month, here in Amsterdam” — Wienke Giezeman, CEO and Co-founder, The Things Industries

This panel is one of the headline moments of The Things Conference 2026, bringing hardware makers, systems integrators, and product builders face to face with the organizations shaping the technologies they build on — not through competing keynotes, but in one shared, unscripted conversation.
