Marcel Schouwenaar is the founder of ScrollScrollScroll, a design collective that develops innovative interventions to help young people regain control over their time and attention. Whether it's helping students improve their focus with WiFi that blocks social media, encouraging teenagers to swap their phones for an alarm clock on their nightstand to sleep better, or creating educational games that teach children about the effects of social media overuse, ScrollScrollScroll combines research, design, technology, and humor to turn complex behavioral challenges into solutions that young people actually want to use.

In 2026, Marcel and his team developed SpelBel: a LoRaWAN-connected doorbell installed in neighborhood playgrounds. With a single press, it notifies parents nearby that it's time to play outside, making it easier for children to find playmates and helping communities reclaim outdoor play.

Before founding ScrollScrollScroll in 2024, Marcel co-founded and led the research and design studio The Incredible Machine, where he served as Creative Director for twelve years. There, he worked with organizations including LEGO, Festool, the City of Amsterdam, NEMO Science Museum, and the MIT Media Lab, designing products, experiences, and research-driven innovations at the intersection of ethics, technology, and creativity.
