Jean-Charles Verdié is the Head of Devices/IoT Field Engineering at Canonical, where he leads strategic engagements to secure and scale industrial deployments using Ubuntu Core and Ubuntu Classic, delivered via Ubuntu Pro for devices. With over 30 years in the embedded space, he has been a key contributor to the evolution of IoT and connected technology from its inception. His career is marked by several industry "firsts," including the creation of the first open-source Embedded WebKit ecosystem (OWB) and the development of silicon-optimized browsers deployed in tens of millions of devices globally. Jean-Charles contributed to the HbbTV standard, led the first HbbTV demonstration at Roland-Garros, and was involved in the launch of Bluetooth 1.0 and Palm handhelds. An award-winning innovator, he received a CES Innovation Award for the AudioCapsule music player and developed the first Triple-Play WiFi MESH solution for Netgem. Today, he focuses on the "Ecosystem Multiplier" effect of open source to drive long-term security and resilience in the global IoT landscape.
