Expanding Z-Wave: Multi-Protocol Innovation and Specification Evolution
The Z-Wave ecosystem continues to evolve to meet the growing demands of connected devices, interoperability, and multi-protocol IoT solutions. This technical session provides an in-depth look at the latest innovations in Z-Wave software, hardware platforms, and specification updates.
A major focus of the session is multi-protocol capability with the Silicon Labs EFR32ZG28 platform, which supports both a Z-Wave-capable sub-GHz radio and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). We’ll compare switched multi-protocol and dynamic multi-protocol approaches, highlighting how each impacts latency, power consumption, and development complexity.
The session will also explore new features in the Z-Wave specification, including:
S2V2 security enhancements for improved and wider encryption.
New device type "Wake on Event", allowing batteryless devices to join Z-Wave networks.
New command classes, such as User Credentials, which expand device functionality and open new application possibilities.
