Current state of energy harvesting and LoRaWAN
The future of billions of IoT devices being powered by batteries is neither viable nor sustainable. LoRaWAN® is one of the wireless protocols that consumes the lowest amount of energy for communication between nodes and gateways. Therefore, LoRaWAN devices are in a way destined to be powered by energy harvesting, hence to become battery-free and autonomous. The LoRa Alliance® launched a dedicated Energy Harvesting Taskforce. The Taskforce members work together to demonstrate to customers the effectiveness of devices that run via energy harvesting and to promote currently available battery-free LoRaWAN devices. In this panel the current status and future developments in energy harvesting will be discussed.
