LoRaWAN-Driven Beehive Monitoring with Students
Yann. DOUZE
In this keynote, I’ll share five years of experience leading student-driven projects that use LoRaWAN to monitor beehives. Born at the crossroads of environmental concern, educational innovation, and low-power technology, these initiatives have turned beekeeping into a real-world lab for IoT exploration.
From acoustic detection of queen presence to hive temperature and weight tracking, students have prototyped, failed, rethought, and deployed solutions—building not only sensors, but a sense of purpose. Along the way, we’ve confronted technical limitations, data dilemmas, and the joys of debugging in a field full of bees.
This talk is about more than just monitoring hives. It’s about how education, open technologies, and nature-inspired challenges can empower the next generation of IoT innovators to design with meaning.
