As 85% of the world’s critical industrial and natural assets remain beyond terrestrial connectivity—rendering them “AI dark”—there is a pressing need for intelligent solutions that thrive in these blind spots. This keynote introduces Mountain’s award-winning edge AI infrastructure, powered by smart vision IBEX, which runs autonomous computer vision entirely at the edge, even in solar-powered, remote, off-grid locations. Leveraging LoRaWAN over Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN), our system delivers 1-year field operations by transmitting only ultra-lightweight metadata, exemplified by deployments protecting French cities from wildfires. For the first time globally, we achieved full image transfer via LoRa GEO NTN—a breakthrough enabling actionable insights in extreme connectivity environments. The talk addresses technical advances in managing MLOps (AI model operations) on narrowband networks and details the challenges conquered in delivering robust, scalable intelligence where it was previously impossible.
